The BAEE Book is a Winner in the 2014 USA Best Book Awards
The BAEE book, American Botanical Paintings: Native Plants of the Mid Atlantic is the Winner in the Home and Garden category of the 11th Annual USA Best Book Awards. Winners and finalists traversed the publishing landscape: Simon & Schuster, Penguin, John Wiley & Sons, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Kensington Books, Harlequin, McGraw-Hill, Llewellyn, Yale University Press, Cornell University Press, University of Missouri Press, White House Historical Association, Wisconsin Historical Society Press, American Bar Association and hundreds of independent houses contributed to this year's outstanding competition.

Over 100 winners and 300 finalists were announced in over 100 categories. Awards were presented for titles published in 2012-2014. Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of USA Book News, said this year's competition yielded over 2,000 entries that were judged by a "distinguished panel of industry judges who bring to the table their extensive editorial, PR, marketing, and design expertise."
New Exhibition at the Athenaeum
The Botanical Art Society of the National Capital Region (BASNCR) is sponsoring an exhibition, "Preserving Our Heritage", at the Athenaeum in Alexandria, Virginia, that will run from November 13, 2014 through January 4, 2015. The opening reception is Sunday, November 16, from 2 to 4 pm. For more information about the Athenaeum see Welcome to the Athenaeum | NVFAA.
On Saturday, November 22, 2014 BASNCR member and BAEE Board Member Eileen Malone-Brown will give a presentation discussing plants in the BAEE book, Native Plants of the Mid Atlantic, with suggestions on how these plants may be used in local gardens. FREE.
Fall 2014 Classes
Two six-week courses are scheduled for the Fall: Botanical Art: Composition and Watercolor. Course description and registration information is available on our Classes page. The instructors will be Bonnie Driggers and Ruth Ann Barr.
Bonnie Driggers Elected to ASBA Board of Directors
Bonnie Driggers, a long-time member of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA), was elected to their Board of Directors in 2014. She is a member of the Botanical Artists of the National Capital Region (BASNCR), President of the Botanical Artists for Education & the Environment (BAEE), and Editor of the BAEE book American Botanical Paintings: Native Plants of the Mid Atlantic.
The Book Project
The Botanical Artists for Education & the Environment (BAEE) created a book of original paintings and drawings of native plants. Any profits generated by the sale of this book will be donated to charities working on native plant education, conservation, and horticulture. Download the publisher's flyer (2.8 Mb .pdf).
